My ikea stealth draws (HID/LED)

Ok before i continue i should make something clear , i initially knocked up these draws with a 250 HID light but battled temps and had to abandon grow due to current living conditions (shame) BUT then i was planning to buy the strip of 4 helios for it which i think shoud fit nicely just infront of the fan and filter ,adding extra height for me .......im still not ruling out the possibility of trying the 4L helios inside providing i know for a fact it will fit well.

i have now bought a helios 6 though for a new future build but i would still like to try one grow in these draws as lots of time, effort and money has been put in to them , so whether it be the 250 HID or the helios pro4L i would like to try in this setup (preferably before i start in the up-coming drobe ,,,,,,,, anyway i hope the pictures below illustrate how i mean about the position of the proposed LED setup in front of the fan and filter.

-----------------------
Bit of back story

I have recreationaly smoked the urb for a long long time , gave up a few years ago for about 3 or 4 years and recently rediscovered its my destiny to chong hehe  ... so i started smoking again , and got fed up of unreliable wanker chuck norris dealers ,selling shite that quite frankly is an insult to marijuana so i decided to read read read and start my own grow project
That was the start of the year

I went to ikea after much searching on the internet and bought a 5 draw chest of draws for £30 i think it was!! bargain!!

Image

I planned ,drilled out exhaust hole and passive then built the draws leaving out some of the innards (draw rails, and some wooden superstructure beams , it is still strong though may i add, I also measured and got cut a big slab of MDF to nail to the back instead of the crap flimsy rear that comes from the factory (same for the floor of the CAB .... prior to assembling i mylared all the inside

here it is prior to securing the base in place

Image

and here with the holes for the exhaust and passive , i originally drilled out two holes but it was not enough so i made it one big hole as can be seen in the doodle below , for the eagle eyed you can see i addded a spigot to the exhaust hole to make it flush, air tight and to give it some bling lol

Image

spigot in place

Image

deciding how to secure the door was a pain in the ass , i eventually added some strips of wood just inside the CAB so a cut to size piece of MDF sat flush inside ,to which the draw fronts where screwed in place giving the illusion of a normal chest of draws with the front on when the gaps where painted with black/brown paint......many magnates where added to secure in place

Image

mylar on the back of the door for an overall 100% reflective inside :D

Image

and voilà!!!!!

Image
Image
Image

So with it all built i decked out the inside

4" TD silent fan
4" PHAT filter
250-400w lumitec digi ballast with 250w MH
WAC-1 speed controller for the fan
Habistat pulse thermostat

i originally planned a vertical grow so i built a cage for the build and added a fan underneath to push the hot air up in to the filter ,but then changed my mind and went horizontal instead

Image

anyway , ill finish this thread with some pictures as it is/was before i had to take it down due to living arrangements ggggrrrrrrr ,,, needless to say i wasn't happy lol .....here you can see i built a box for the fan ,insulated it with loft insulation then mylared it all

i bought a reflector and cut it down in size to fit the space and primarily to hold the bulb horizontal ,i cut a hole in the top of the reflector and screwed a PC fan on top to suck the hot air up to the filter.

Image

WAC-1 and pulse thermostat in place (this is the only picture i have that shows the gap the helios pro4L would have to squeeze in to if i choice to try that, im sure from memory the filter protrudes very slightly further than the fan box , so basicailly if the helios is no wider than the WAC-1 is long i should be able to fit it inside ..... i have enough room length wise its the depth thats the question if you understand?)

Image

and here is the finished product ,with everything in place   ,i think you will agree , it does look nice hehe

Image

i hope you all like my build , as i said lots of time , effort more time and money has been spent here so i would really like to use this setup at least the once before i erect the drobe with the monster pro6 helios
if you have any questions please feel free to ask ill be happy to answer your questions

thanks all , may the grow be with you ...... always hehe

peace
;)

Deadlock wrote:Wicked Cab Mate! Nice and Tidy, excellent write up aswell Bro

[b]Mylars a arse to work with but your cab looks lovely and flat, no major crinkles anywhere, good job bro!

Yeah you'd fit a Helios 4 Bar in that! Perfectly, its probably the same size as your HPS setup anyhoo.

thanks a lot man what can i say , i tried lol ,im by no means a DIY expert haha ..... the mylar came folded , as you said else where if you ask for it on the roll it comes perfect , mine is in fact quite creased however future mylar wont be thanks to you.

so you think a 4 bar would fit in that do ya? even if it has to dangle below the fan box and filter do you think i will have enough space??? if it would fit where i intended it would be mega!! and free up head room , but your description/explanation sounds sweet dude hehe ....... i might have to ask LEDhydro if any deals are on or sumat on that pro4L ...

it would look awesome to have that CAB full of weed ,environment HOPEFULLY dialed in perfectly

very nice set up mate. necessity sure is mother of invention, well done mate.
Helios pro 4L is 420x420x75mm and i think will be perfect or you can go with 2 x Helios pro 2.

hhmmmmm you guys have really got me thinking now!!!!! .....

now im thinking about possibly a grow in these draws with 2x pro2's ..... and when ready i can move the 2x pro2's in with the pro 6 in either a tent or a drobe, still not decided which yet but i love the idea of stealth for when visitors come ,,, it will be a drobe me thinks lol

any way with a pro6 stationary in place i can move the other two around at will throughout grow ,,, can be used as powerful side and lower lighting providing they are not to close and bleach which is my concern using them as side lights , what you think??

it would be mega that wouldn't it!? being able to move the lights you could make sure the beam is aimed EXACTILY where you want down bellow

it should make a dramatic difference to the lower buds and over all yeild shouldn't it??

its a great idea thats sounds more appealing the more i think about it , in fact ,fuck it ,why not lol!!! ...i will have to wait about 3 weeks till i can order though :D .....

i love love your idea for filtration dude , and i would love to give it a try ,and may well do but i have got the idea of a 5" TDsilent hooked up to a 6" PHAT filter .....the reasoning for this is i have mass of power IF needed in HOT summer months which can be turned right down to a whisper with a wac-1 controller most of the time during normal everyday weather ......and an over sized filter to help the fan , the TDsilents are not centrifugal like rucks so a bigger filter will improve air flow and put less stress on the fan.

I took measurements b4 , the fan and can combined will be 96cm long! so add a few CM for ducting and bobs ya uncle lol

Also with this type of extraction i can choice to even add my 250MH to the mix if i wanted to hehe or flick it to 400w ;) ...... But realistically i think once i get the LED in and growing the thought of supplement HID lighting will be long forgotten

i was thinking about positioning the pro2's ,,,,,i was thinking if i could have them some how mounted on either side at the bottom of the wardrobe (or free hung so can manipulate) facing diagonally upward across the plant from both sides .. i never knew the popcorn bud take away some of the potency from the top buds , maybe with concentrated powerful lights on lower buds would make them massive to????? or is it in EVERY SINGLE MARIJUANA STRAINS MAKE UP that states lower buds are small???

Deadlock wrote:Yup man, your set up is well thought out and cool.

I reckon its worth the test mate, dont think its strain related but just the way the plant 'flowers' just like any other plant, tomatoes have small ones right at the bottom also, definately due to lack of light.
So flooding the lower branches would give good results.
Well exciting dude! New theory, new proof.

yea in theory it sounds right doesn't it , even if it doesn't fatten up the lower buds it should improve the plants buddage and yeild overall due to extra light , 200 actual watts to be exact hehe .it should boost the yeild still hey??
