Nope, you did nothing wrong. The more light you can give the better, and being held back on positioning isn't really an issue as long as you are getting the lights to the plants.

I just like thinking a vertical plant would benefit more from a vertical light (more efficient top to bottom coverage.)

I made this half-assed diagram years ago, showing how I would utilize ~400w T5 vertically to obtain the best uniform lighting and the best yield.

Of course, now I use pure LED. T5 is only turned on when I need to see full-color :D

wow that's pretty intricate. I can imagine a klutz like me would keep knocking the central tubes over LOL. But they would provide great support for the foliage for sure!
I tested the cooling system last night and woke to find temps in the 90's!!!! Gonna have to vent to outside after all dammit. There goes all stealth while it's running, but I expected that. At least if visitors come I can tidy up in 5 mins and make it look like there's no growing going on. Now I need to find a 5" spiggot from somewhere....

That's about par for the course with sites like rollitup, skunk skool, etc. That's why I'm no longer around those sites.

My idea was to have the central tubes permanently affixed, and then protected with a sleeve about an inch in diameter so the leaves wouldn't burn upon contacting the surface. That way, no knockover, and low chance of actually breaking the lamps.

Kinda took that idea from seeing one guy with MASSIVE buds on a forum looooooong ago. All of his HID lights were run vertical, and he was slaming CO2 out the frame.

Now for your 90F temps, wowzers! Are you sure you're getting proper airflow? No kinks in the exhaust tubing? Carbon filter isn't somehow packed too tight as to restrict airflow?

No, I was a dufus, and didnt bother venting out the window. Instead, the vented air was going back in the unit and getting hotter still!
I really thought I could get away with venting from another room, but no problem, I have covered the window with wood, drilled a 5" hole and fixed the venting ducting to it and now were cool again. Will do a proper test tonight.

its always work in progress mate.
I always changing thing around, always think can get it better, fine tuning.
I seen many grow room and you are up there mate, you done your Research.

top stuff teetee. love the wardrobe man, I didn't realise you could get a kit for that kind of enclosure, exactly the kind of thing I will need. I also was particularly interested in the sealed thermal and acoustic box idea.
Im building up some eqpt (on the DIY thread here) but ive started with the custom electronics. for temp monitoring I will prbly have three probes , 2 (high and low mounted ) inside the "box" and at least one outside so I can measure the effect it takes on room ambient and just above the "box" any thermal spot. Interesting to see the venting and cooling topic come up.
I had pondered over the many ways to remove heat.
In the end I will want CO2, like you. Nice setup btw!
And maybe O2 generator also when required. CO2 and dissolved O2 sensors...

So sealing the gas environment and only venting the air as necc. But then removing the heat would become an issue. I know its a bit extreme but I considered weather the heat can be removed by water cooling , ie place a Radiator inside the tent, pump cold water around to somewhere with a cooler radiator to loose the heat. That second radiator could be inside a refrigerator beside, so now I could have cool air on demand without loosing the CO2 concentration I would build up... also we don't want to vent high co2 concentration into the room, its not that good for you at high concentrations.
Another way would be to adjust those heatsinks on the LED clusters, get something like a water cooling block on each and remove the heat from source to a simpler external radiator.

keep up the good work, its going to fun seeing this doing its thing. you are making an excellent job of it my friend, very nice project!

This guy speent $5000 just to check his lights PAR.
He's also put a light mover rail in a small tent :o

edit: having read through his threads, he turns out to be a total ass and spoils everything. He did way too much research and became a know it all before even planting a seed. Made me realise I just should keep things as simple as possible.

Godzilla mate, you should definately look at the first part of Franks grow, before he turns into an ass and gets into a fight with a LED manufacturer. He builds a water cooled airconditioning system using recycled water from elsewhere in his system, and gets it all in his tent.

Also spoke to Muddy, and he's got a mate who is a wizard with electronics, and were discussing a watercooled system for the LED using bits from an old radiator. There's a few Aquatic stores that sell reconditioned water coolers, these might be a good size to plunder for a cooling system for the LEDs as well. I don't have a clue, I'm no electronics expert.... you are though!!

Interesting you mention an oxygen generator.... it dawned on me that if I up the CO2 ppm in the air of to 1500 surely the oxygen levels will drop, and we need oxygen going into the air pump for the DWC. I thought maybe having the pump outside the cabinet, but that would mean long airlines and noise +++. I've got 4 air inlets in the cab, 2 with fans an the bottom front, and 2 passive holes on the back wall at the bottom for cabling etc. I would have to position the air pump right over one of the intakes to make sure air from outside (with a higher ppm of Oxygen) will go into the DWC to oxygenate the roots. Another thought was to put an ozone generator in the cab, and as Oxygen is a by product of its breakdown, that should improve the O2 ppm. Of course Ozone is hazardous, and I'm not keen on having it as my lungs are bad enough as it is. Again, I'm no expert, just throwing ideas out there so someone can catch them and elaborate... plus its 4am, just got tattooed down one side of my ribs (ouch) and I'm caned.

Would like to see your DWC system though, I'm going to write up a post showing the workings of my 16 site 50 Litre DWC unit with built in drainage tube and top feeding drippers with a water cooler plumbed in. Then I need to get my arse in gear for a Christmas harvest. Must hit the sack, but thanks for your input. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with regarding the controller setup.
