Modifications to wardrobe set up.

I was having trouble keeping temps down and humidity up. Also I was unhappy with the fact that I could not easily set night time temps (to be say 7 degrees cooler).

I thought that by purchasing the highly celebrated Ecotechnics Evolution system, I would have full control over these parameters, but alas, the blurb on the company and hydro shop websites promises more than the equipment actually delivers.

I have seen other all in one controllers that do control more parameters, but they were quite costly.... I had already shelled out for something not suitable, I may as well pay just a little bit extra to get something better. I called my Hydro shop to see what they could do about it, and they point blank refused. That was HG Hydro by the way. I called up Esoteric Hydro, and they happily traded my old Ecotechnics kit for a Harvest Master Pro, plus a few extra quid for the difference... I got a decent deal, as I would never have made the money back from my Ecotechnics stuff on E-Bay etc plus there's minimal security risk this way as well! So thanks to Jeff at Esoteric. I'll still deal with HG as the staff 'on the desk' are very helpful.

The Harvest Master Pro controls the entire grow. You can connect any number of lights, extractor fans, intake fans, CO2, heaters, coolers, humidifiers and dehumidifyers, watering times, alarms, etc. It also has an interesting feature, in that you can set it to vegetative - lights on 18, off 6 hrs a day, or flowering - lights on 12, off 12 hrs a day. You can also play around with the day length, so you could go into rapid flowering mode, with a suggested lights on for 6-8 hours with 12 hours night giving you an 18-20 hour cycle instead of a 24 hour cycle. This apparently reduces the flowering time by a week or 2... we shall see.

It's nice to see it in action... if the humidity goes down, the humidifier switches on and cuts out at the correct level. I have noticed the fans are in operation MUCH less than before, giving me a better environment and longer time periods to use CO2 without extracting it immediately. Problem is the CO2 sensor on the HM is faulty... Esoteric are on the case.

I also listened to Autoberry and added another carbon filter to my exhaust set up. This was to increase the airflow by reducing the drag from having a single filter. It seems to have done the trick, as combining it with the HM (and probably cos were getting into Winter) has kept the temps down.

I'm still having a bit of a slow start to my grow, but hopefully things will get better soon. One thing's for sure, next grow, I will dump the big DWC unit and go for single buckets. It's much easier to care for plants on an individual needs basis that way, using this big tank is slowing down the fast ones and overfeeding the slow ones.
