DP Blue Automazar and Auto Think Different in Coco & Airpots

Greetings from far away where temps are 32C and 78% Humidity...... in January.

Following on from the success of my last grow, I decided to stick with my plan and grow some Dutch Passion bud. Their strains are so stable, and they can take a bit of punishment..... well, these girls are gonna get that with me!

I fancy some nice heavy Indica with a bit of flavour, so Blue Automazar is my choice for 2 plants, and I'm also gonna grow one of the fabled Think Different, something I have always wanted to smoke.

Strain information

BlueAutomazar

Blue AutoMazar combines the best of two of Dutch Passions legendary original automatics into a new heavy yielding potent hybrid. It is a cross of AutoBlueberry and AutoMazar, two of their most popular varieties.
Harvest around 75 days after germination and typically grows to 80-100cm tall. They need space as the plants like to spread out.
Composition: 75% indica and 25% sativa.
A complicated array of fruit aromas and occasional scents of spice, pepper, earthy.
The effect is strong, happy and sedating on the body.
Yields for most growers will be 75-100 grams, although the most experienced growers will be able to crop 200g++ from a single plant.

Think Different

A high yielding autoflowering strain with legendary superior potency levels.
A Dutch Passion genebank strain called AK420 was used to start the process, this is a heavy yielding AK47 hybrid with extreme potency levels. AK420 was systematically crossed with a carefully chosen Ruderalis.
Seed to harvest is 63-80 days, typically growing 1-1.5m tall
Composition: 60% Sativa, 20% Indica and 20% Ruderalis
Sweet and spicy scents with earthy, plum tones
Occasionally yielding 250-300g per plant under optimum conditions. THC levels measured at 18%

I am toying with the idea of scrogging them, I saw some fine work by Hazy on the DP website where he grows 2 Blue Automazars in a single pot, training the main stem horizontally each side, then training the side branches to give loads of tops. He's also quite happy to supercrop and even top DP autos, with lovely results.

In the end though, I will probably just do what I did in my last grow, give or take a few minor modifications and improvements.

I made up 3x 20 Litre Airpots with 100% Canna Coco Plus, this time, pretty much right up to the edge, because I found that last time, the level of the surface dropped during the grow, and I wanted to raise the plants away from the edges of the pot to get better airflow and make feeding easier.

I gave the Coco a good soaking with EC 0.6 feed using the same line of House and Garden nutrients and directly planted the 3 seeds, finally I covered the airpots with clingfilm, and let them sit under the last Critical Jack (1) auto while she ripened in her last week.

Like a stoned fool, I cocked up the labelling....I blame the Wife, she called me out at a critical moment  , and now I've forgotten which plant is which.... I think I've got it right, but one of the Blue Automazars may be the Think Different....

Now that I have harvested the Critical Jack, I've got more room in the tent, so I replaced the extraction ducting and re-jigged the electrics.... the seedling popped 14 days ago, so here they are at day 14....

hopefully she will catch up.

not doing too badly either...

So that's where we are... EC is at 1.0 ph 5.8, and I give them 500ml 4-5 times a day.
Hope you enjoy the ride!

EDIT:

Last night, while trying to avoid falling asleep watching West Ham squeeze through to the next round of the FA Cup (Come on you Irons!), I tested the EC of the run off, after giving a EC 1.0 feed, it was between EC 0.5 - 0.6, so I upped the feed to EC 1.1, and this morning all looked good. I'll probably keep them at this level for 2-3 days before testing again.

Looking back at my last grow, the exact same situation regarding EC happened, so on track there..... it's just that the plants were slightly bigger in the last grow at this stage....

I can only put it down to lighting...... for this grow, I had the Helios 6 over 2 plants, and a Helios 2 over one. 8 Helios clusters in all.

Now I have done what I did last time, adding the extra Helios 2 so that I now have 2 plants under their own Helios 2's and one will have the Helios 6 to herself.
Heights were 28" last time, I've gone for 25" today. 10 Helios clusters in total.

Day 20 update

All is good with my girls, BAM1 and TD are bushing out, and seem nice and healthy. BAM2 was a slow starter, and then her first few leaves were a bit weird, but she's moved up a gear or two and is now on track.

I haven't rigged up the Blumats yet.... I am rotating the pots and moving them around a bit so that each one gets a go under the Helios 6 for a couple of days.

Blue Automazar 1 - she's doing the best....

day 20 BAM1_1.JPG

day 20 BAM1-2 .JPG

Think Different is also flourishing, getting bushy laterally, but very tightly spaced nodes on the main stem....

day 20 TD-1.JPG

day 20 TD-2.JPG

Finally Blue Automazar 2 - starting to look good...

day 20 BAM2-1.JPG

day 20 BAM2-2.JPG

I don't mind if one plant finishes a week or two later than the other 2, that happened with my last grow, and all plants benefitted from the extra space.

I still have the lights on 24/0 and lowered them to 25 inches. EC 1.1.

I was on the verge of mainlining them.... that is to top them above the 3rd node, tie out the 3rd node side branches, then strip everything below, then a bit later in the grow, top them 1-2 more times...... I might wait until I have grown a few Christmas trees first.... so drastic, esp to autos, and even though Dutch Passion strains can probably take it, I don't have the balls!

More in a while

Day 24 update

I was going to wait till the weekend, but unfortunately there's been a few events since last time.....

I was given 2 weeks notice, but my Landlord had some work done to the place without planning permission, and is now retrospectively sorting it out..... he needed to inspect the property and get it approved by the council, :? so last monday was the day..... we spent all weekend sorting out the house, and on sunday night I cleared out the grow room..... I put each plant in a box, then put everything away, finally I took the side poles out of the tent and collapsed it down. I put a white sheet over it and a few cushions later, it looked like a matress on the floor. All looked great, the inspection came and went, and it was time to reinstall everything......

First the plants...... they'd been in the dark, in a box each, for 24 hours...... BAM1 and TD looked fine,

but BAM2, the straggler, took a real beating somehow.... she looks like she's been topped and has lost a couple of fan leaves as well.
day 24 BAM2-2.JPG

The tent took a beating too, some of the poles bent, and my clever idea of collapsing it, then just pushing it up and re-inserting the side poles failed in spectacular fashion. The whole lot fell apart, with me in it  , and bent up some more poles..... one by almost 90 degrees.

Crappy baggy poxy Seahawk tents.

Anyway, the tent is back up :P , giving me a chance to review the electrics etc. and hoover out all the spiders webs etc behind the tent (less that I anticipated, luckily).

I fed them EC1.1 to recover for on Monday, yesterday I upped it to EC1.2, and they seem very happy. I didn't want to, but I also removed 2 massive fan leaves from TD to allow more light into the developing (but completely engulfed) side shoots. I also removed some of the lower leaves and shoots on all 3 as they were touching the Coco and making feeding difficult.

They need a bit of nursing and TLC today, but I expect them to recover well.

Yeah, the DP genetics show through at times like this.

All 3 have perked up nicely and are bushing up well.

Day 28 update

The girls have recovered from the shock of the Landlord's inspection, and have grown quite a bit in the 3 days since the last photos.
day 28 group.JPG

They are currently on EC1.4 made up of the following ingredients:

base (rain) water EC 0
Cal Mag 0.2ml/L to EC 0.2
H&G Coco nutrients A&B 0.9ml/L to EC 1.0
Drip Clean 0.1ml/L
Roots Excellurator 0.3ml/L
Amino Treatment 0.4ml/L
Nitrogen 0.3ml/L to EC 1.4

... and they get 300-500ml 3-4 times a day at pH between 5.8 to 6.2

I haven't put the Blumats in yet, I'm just waiting for some more growth from BAM2, plus I have been rotating the pots, which would be impossible if they were all rigged up.

BAM1 is doing the best, she has a good balance of upward and lateral growth, and is currently 13 inches tall
day 28 BAM1.JPG

TD is also doing very well, but has a lot of very large fan leaves, which are obscuring the light from the lateral shoots. I have been trying to tuck these under the shoots, but have also removed some of the fan leaves.... something I'm not usually keen on doing, as I believe these leaves are like engines for the plant, and removing big (healthy) ones result in reduced performance. I only remove leaves that have just started to look a little aged. She is currently 10 inches tall.
day 28 TD.JPG

You can see the difference in height between TD on the left and BAM1 on the right....
day 28 TD and BAM1.JPG

Finally, BAM2..... she is a pain in the arse. First she was a slow starter, then some dodgy leaves, then she got topped and lopped by accident, now she looks like she's being eaten by something.....
day 28 BAM2 leaf damage.JPG

You can see it on the leaves at 1 and 2 o clock, and also starting on the mutant leaf at 5 o clock

I've had a good look around her and under the leaves, but nowt..... I hope it isn't a predator, but perhaps something to do with the dodgy leaves..... splitting as they grow maybe???

I wish I binned her and started afresh, but I want to see her through to the end.... I'm hoping she might come up trumps at harvest time, what with the delay (she'll finish 2 weeks after the other 2 get chopped - and will have the tent to herself), and the punishment (topping can increase yield). I checked her run off at EC 0.9 and it was 0.5, so she's feeding well, and looking otherwise healthy with good growth in the last 3 days
day 28 BAM2.JPG

You can see another couple of damaged leaves at 6 and 8 o clock.

Just for comparison, I put together some photos of BAM2 all rotated the same orientation, at day 14, 20, 24 and 28.
