DAY 43.

Hi everyone,

Here's today's pics, showing the amount of spread I have achieved with LST and topping/fimming.
My usual camera's playing up, so this is the best I could do, sorry!
:grin:::::

no 1 ( under LED). She is the top left pot

No 2. She's in the bottom left pot and doing nicely

DSC_0127.JPG
No 3. She is in the top right but one pot (top middle in the pic) - probably the healthiest of my girls

No 4. she's been fimmed, and is growing several side branches.

I'm gonna up the EC tonight with a full reservoir change. Maybe to 0.7 EC. I put it up to 0.5 EC 2 days ago, and it's dropped to 0.4, so they're feeding now - AT LAST!!!

Also got my CO2 and temp sensors back so all is connected and working well -AT LAST!!!

I'm happy with the spread, need more to compensate for no 4, then upwards!!!

DAY 45

Did a res change on sat night, brought the EC upto 0.8.

I started with RO water (EC 0), added 0.5ml/L Cal Mag (30ml) to bring EC to 0.4, added nutes to EC 0.7 and added the additives as listed:
Roots Excelurator 6ml, Amino treatment 6.5ml, Multizen 30ml, Algen extract 4ml. This brought the final EC to 0.8, and after minimal pH+ adjustment (3ml Silicon) all ready.

Ph 5.8, water temp 19C, air temp 28C, RH 50%, CO2 varies between 650 and 850ppm.

I'm beginning to dread doing res changes when the plants get bigger... lifting that lid just an inch or 2 to get to the drainage tube is gonna be difficult later on. I should have drilled a hole on the lid and have the drainage tube exiting a bit like how I did the water cooler pipework. Luckily each time I have done a res change so far, it has been as clean as a whistle inside the tub... House and Garden nutes are very clean.

It's all looking good. I dunno if its my imagination but there's already quite a strong weed smell when I open the doors :P

You might thing they are a bit short after 40 odd days, but don't forget, I have heavily trained these girls (no 1,2 and 3), the main stems have an 80 degree bend about 2 inches up, and all side branches have been pulled down and out. Each side branch has been topped or fimmed, to give more lateral growth, which should fill out the area. In total the main stem is about 30cm long on no 2, but she's been bent over to 17cm high.

Here's a shot of her main stem. You can see 3 of the 4 new shoots at the end (top left) caused by the initial fimming, and all the side branches fanning out. From what I understand topping only gives you 2 new shoots.

I will see how the Girls get on with the increased EC, and maybe consider upping it some more later this week. I still want to see more from no1 and 4 before that though. I must say that no 1 looks a bit bushier since the change, and the side branches on no 4 are finally beginning to grow outwards, (although that might be just due to the oxygen bath they received during the res change) but they're responding nicely for now...

Thanks for following my thread, see you soon!

bro your cal /mag is high.
cal/mag more then 50% of your EC now.
you only need 10 to 15% cal/mag.
your leafs are curling on last pic.

cheers mate,

I was going by the instructions, and also what you told me... 0.5ml/L. But at 0.4 EC I thought that was a bit high as well LOL.
Those curled leaves you see were like that before the change, and I haven't cut them off yet because they were handy for the LST.
Maybe I should do a full change on weds with higher base nutes and less Cal Mag? The feed chart recommends base nutes at 50ml at this stage where I'm only putting in 20ml. I know the feed charts are max values, but I'm sure I could inc base EC upto 1.4 at full veg, maybe 0.9 to start off with though (wednesday).

Looking forward to your reply

tee tee, cant seem to get latest picture up what date was the last update bro ??......

after posting this it updated so can see the new work tee tee........

Ledbud is right re the cal/mag.........hit a 0.2 with cal./mag, then nute it upto ec 1.2..........1.4 would be a max in flower.........auto's generally dont like nute above 1.4.........so creep up there slow tee.................nice job on the LST.............good job with the silicone to tee................thay look fine now the feed combi is sorted...........if you can smell canna b4 the buds show...........you are on the right track.............ledbuds new tiega looks good to yea...........AB.............will post me DP' Euforia thread 2moz......................AB.............ps; you must be pleased tee.......

Tee tee the reason the leaf curl on one plant and not the others, is, that plant has a lower nute threshold than the others...................this is what i meant about getting to know them individually.............in seperate DWC..................wen this one showed a nute sensativitie..in "Solo" DWC you can address individually the issue................you cant wen they are all in together !!.......... the others are not showing the curl.........so no harm done tee..................the curl will go wen you go to bloom nutes i expect.............great job though................you come along way tee......well done bro........AB........

Ps; you see what i meant now re res access............i mentioned b4 the start !!...............none the less.............good job.............AB........

Thanks Autoberry, and Sensei nee rei!!!

I really needed the encouragement... I've got some great teachers in you and Ledbud, which is why the girls are back on track. A BIG THANK YOU to you two for getting me to this point.

I decided to do a res change this evening... no point waiting 2 more days and fuck it all up at this stage.

This time I halved the Cal Mag to 15ml (0.25ml/L) to give my RO water an EC of 0.2. To this, I added 30ml Aqua Flakes nutes (compared to 15ml last week and 20ml on Saturday) to give EC 0.6. After adding the same amount of additives and pH adjustment as on Saturday, I reached an EC of 0.7.

Autoberry suggests going for an EC of 1.2, which I will try to hit this week, by gradually adding more nutrient every 2-3 days when I do a water top up.

AB was right about the issues of using a great big tank to grow more than one plant, he raised the issues before I started, but AFTER I bought the DWC, so I had to carry on with the master plan and just accept the problems. Mark my words though, I will be using individual buckets next time, for sure.

Anyway, all is well in Pineapple Chunk Land, its nearly 2am, and I have to take the dog out for a shit  ... I'm almost certainly gonna need a smoke afterwards to recover from the trauma. I thought I'd share that with you all.

individual buckets are better, you can dial in nuts.
also try one in air pot mate.
keep up the good work.

Cheers mate.

Yeah, I think I will try an air pot next time, you have totally sold it to me! Just wish I had more space.....

What do you reckon about upping the nutes like I said in my last post?

Run out of CO2, I suspect most of it got wasted using the Ecotechnics gear. I found a better and closer supplier for home delivery CO2!!! Coming Weds.

This new controller is the mutts nuts... dialled in nicely, the more gadgets you connect, the better it maintains the environment. A humidifier is pumping out the vapour as and when needed, cold weather is keeping ambient temps down.

I must say though, the primary source of heat in my set up is the LED. That actually pumps out hot air like 6 hairdryers (but then again it does draw hot air from the top of the cabinet). Even then I have a 6" and a 9" fan circulating air.... I might have to find a way of keeping the LED cooler or exhausting the warm air directly. I do have a carbon filter directly above it, that must surely remove most of the hot air produced by the Helios???

:grin:::::

Any ideas out there?
