G'day folks,

I'm not so happy today on day 49..... opened the tent to see the the edges of the uppermost leaves of AU1 and AU2 all curled up.....
DSC_0064.JPG

Bud production has slowed down considerably, and they are drinking 5 litres, twice a day with minimal run off.......
DSC_0065.JPG

.... where as the smaller CJ is doing very well in her limited space....
DSC_0067.JPG

Here's a group shot showing how big the AUs are compared to the CJ front left.....
DSC_0069.JPG

I've been running loads of lights, a 600W HPS over AU1, with LEDs over the rest..... temps were 28-29C on average, but the HPS was at max height, and even then, the plants were only a matter of inches below.....

...... a classic case of the dreaded......

H E A T S T R E S S

So I set about removing the HPS and repositionning the LEDs as high as possible and as evenly as possible over them, hopefully this will allow them to recover and get on with flowering.

This is how I set everything up now....
DSC_0071.JPG

I've got some H&G Algen Extract, which is basically a Kelp extract, I have read that this is good for heat stress.... anyone tried this??

I'll let you know how they get on..... any tips here would be well appreciated.

Have a good 'un!

Alrgt tee....

@Day40 they look fine with hps in there teetee......

9days later they start curling. Have you had an ambiunt surge ? what is your outdoor temp at the mo ? as you had 28-29c on the day 40...........

Now hps is out, canopy temp should drop......... the hps did wonders in veg as allways......
but you pay in Kw......... the photons are making a diff as well mate.......

i take it the tromf cant deliver 5ltrs per day ? to slow by diffusion tee ??

5ltrs per day should be enough to keep the plant hydrated. The leaves curl upwards, usually to reduce surface area to photons, and slow dehydration tee........ ab

Cheers for answering my SOS mate.

If anything we're entering the coldest part of the year, last night temps outside dropped to 3-5C FFS. I want my money back.
Mornings are chilly, breaking into the 15-18C mark then by lunchtime its 28C. Makes it very hard to maintain stable indoor temps.

The HPS was so close to the canopy, couldn't get it any higher. I used MH in veg, and will def do that again with LEDs to assist in early and late veg, maybe switch to HPS and LED for the 1st few weeks of flowering, continuing if the canopy is low enough. The AU's are big plants generally from what I read, so other (shorter) strains may be more suitable for what I tried to do.

I didnt use the Tropfs this grow, waited too long, then couldn't get round to it...... drenching the coco etc.....
been feeding by hand..... but the tropf can deliver large amounts if reqd.

I can see flowering has resumed , and the edges of the leaves are flattening out again. I dropped the feed from EC1.3 down to EC1.1 and I added Kelp extract for the micronutrients and the beneficial effect on the roots.

I'm not out of the woods just yet, but there's improvement......

Cheers Ledbud, Bro....

I think I have dealt with the heat stress.... all was going well until the AU's got too big.... and therefore too close to the HPS. Heat stress took over and the AU's drank bucket loads.... as they were drinking so much they were therefore taking in excess nutes, giving them the dark green leaves. Basically they overdosed and locked out for a couple of days.

I had the EC on 1.1 - 1.2 just before the heat stress issue, but I noticed on the day of disaster that the EC had crept upto 1.3.... so as well as removing the HPS, and rejigging the LEDs, I flushed them with EC 0.8 (cos any lower will screw with the buffering capability of the Coco) for 12 hours then dropped the base EC by 0.2 to 1.0 and added 1ml/L Algen extract - a kelp extract, for the micronutrients and the beneficial effects it has on the roots. It seems to have done the trick, after 48 hours they started up again, so the stoma must be opening up again, the crinkled, upturned edges of the uppermost leaves have started to straighten out, and they they are well and truly back on track, with plenty of active flowering sites.....

They seem to be very happy under the LEDs, the new Photons are really good, they have lenses over each LED that intensify the light and makes it penetrate further.... and I can see there is some difference.... lower flowers that tend to be popcorn seem to be more developed than usual. Temps are much much lower, dropping from 28-30C down to 20-23C.

With all that LED going on in there, I get an ear worm everytime I open the tent..... Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees. I dunno why....

Day 52 update

All is proceeding nicely..... I supercropped 5/6 stems on AU2 that were getting close to the lights.... as you can see the AUs are inches from the top of the tent, with the CJ sitting quietly budding away there in the left front corner.....
day 52 group1.JPG
AU1 is at the front with AU2 taking up the back half of the tent.

AU1 was under the HPS so she got the brunt of the heat stress. Last week I trimmed a lot of the lower leaves and popcorn away to increase airflow, and to allow her to concentrate on fixing the heat stress above, rather than the weak stuff below. She could do with some more defoliation there on the bottom right.....
day 52 AU1-1.JPG

day 52 AU1-2 .JPG
plenty of bud activity in AU1

day 52 AU1-3.JPG
still quite a lot of crinkled leaves, but they're improving

day 52 AU1-5.JPG
flowering has resumed

day 52 AU1-6.JPG
she has responded well to supercropping

AU2 is going for it..... she has been mainly under LED this whole grow, and was performing as well as AU1 in every way.... unfortunately, because her canopy is at the same level as AU1, she also got heat stressed, but not as bad. The new Photon LEDs have made a noticeable difference in light penetration.... the colas start from deeper, and there's loads of bud sites....

day 52 AU2-2.JPG
AU2

day 52 AU2-3.JPG
here's 3 stems that I supercropped last night.... they're responding well

Meanwhile, while all this heat stress malarkey's been going on higher up, CJ has been quietly getting on with it, showing her big fat sisters how it's done.....

day 52 CJ2.JPG
she has some nice fat sparkly buds

I'm gonna start molasses tomorrow and I'm thinking of giving her a little PK13/14, but I'm gonna make sure the EC stays in the current 1.0 - 1.1 region.

Have a hazy weekend, wherever you may be!

Teetee, alrt, you should see a big difference in floer growth from the photons mate. if you get yourself a lux meter which measure all visible spectrum. You will see the difference in power. The lux meter includes the white light spectrum as well teetee mate.......

I run my photon 189,s 35-40cm from canopy, even at 25cm, they dont burn anything at all. But at 25cm, some light will be blocked from the lower satalite sets etc........

I have started some fem "DesForia" and more fem power plant, and a handfull of "Durban Poison".... come august we will be there !!

Filth here are saying, in the south, there has been a 500 fold increase in small canna units. And have no staff to deal with "In-Coming Notifications" from grasses.......

Thats good, kuz they are just about to receive another massive cut in filth funding from gov. Hope alls well out there bro........

I aint been about much as i have got up and running back in Jan. me plantation shutter business, which i am having trouble keeping up with atm. get in from work late, and av to do 2hrs inbox and quote paps for clients.............. am of the seychelles later in the year......... "Georgette Bay" Praslin Island. Put in google image, and take a look at the "bay" bro....!! stunning.............

WHU hired a latvian guy to manage the boys today ??......... Good luck with that one.......he only would sign up for 3mnths !! he aint stupid !!..............

Decided in the end to fit the 12mm taps to 6mm feed pipe just outside res. And delete the ceramic part of the tromf set up. And just run the 3mm floppy tube into the soil area. on each Dame. And then time of 1ltr discharge. And then i can control the water going in. With no watering of each plant by hand. just open the taps and set timer and av a cuppa !! As res goes down with taps open, the dynamic positive head pressure will drop slowly, slowing the flow rate from gravity res.

I am not likely to suffer a failed ceramic, that will not stop dripping, leading to a catch tray overflow !!.......... should work ok...... just have to time and measure the flow rates etc....... me 30ltr res will give a ltr ea !!....... the trouble with canna pro plus cocco......is the increased "Transevaporation" from the surface. Which is exacerbated in airpots !!......... so when you say yours drink 5ltr plus a day, that probly inc 3ltrs "Transevaportation" potential........ acelerated by 30C top temp !!........ i added 15% perlite to help retain some moisture in cocco...... did a run off ph of new pro plus, was bang on 6.6.......... thats a good start !!.........the AU's look good bro, those thin sativa leaves will ensure plenty of light gets down below....pushing up the weights atb teetee.....AB

Day 59 update.

It's that boring bit during flowering when you're just waiting.... watching for any change.....

day 59 group.JPG
Group shot

The AUs are just massive...... right up to the lights, which are at max height. They have both completely recovered from the heat stress and are flowering beautifully. There are just masses of bud sites in the canopy, and the Photons are penetrating deep into the foliage, so there are loads of long colas forming.

day 59 AU1-1.JPG
AU1

day 59 AU2-1.JPG
AU2

They are on the following House and Garden nutrient schedule....

EC0 rainwater with 0.25ml/L Cal Mag to buffer and bring base EC to 0.2.
0.75ml/L A&B to EC0.8
0.1ml/L Drip Clean
0.3ml/L Roots Excellurator
1ml/L each of Algen Extract, Multizyme and Bud XL
Final EC 1.1

day 59 AU1-3.JPG
AU1

day 59 AU2-5.JPG
AU2

The AUs have a long way to go, at least 6 more weeks..... I expect them to pass the 100 day mark.

CJ is just getting on with the final stages of flowering..... much shorter than the AUs, she sits there in the corner, with her own LEDS.... 2x Helios Pro 2s.

day 59 CJ1.JPG
CJ

day 59 CJ2.JPG
CJ in bloom

She has some lovely colas forming, all fattening out nicely, and absolutely covered in trichomes....

day 59 CJ6.JPG
CJ

day 59 CJ7.JPG
CJ

day 59 CJ11.JPG
CJ

She has been on a slightly different feed recipe for the last week.... with PK13/14 and molasses instead of Roots Excellurator....

EC0 rainwater with 0.25ml/L Cal Mag to buffer and bring base EC to 0.2.
0.6ml/L A&B to EC0.6
0.1ml/L Drip Clean
1ml/L each of Top Booster (PK13/14), Algen Extract, Multizyme and Bud XL
Molasses
Final EC 1.0

Today, I dropped the Top Booster, re-started Roots Excellurator, and started Top Shooter at 0.5ml/L. I will increase the Top Shooter by 0.5ml/L for 2 weeks then flush for 2 weeks before cropping her..... at least, that's the plan.

More next week..... I am hoping to see some big sparkly buds building on the AUs, and a boost to the CJ buds.
Thanks for checking in.
